Our Story

Built From the
Bottom Up.
Built to Last.

Another Blessed Ministry didn't start in a boardroom. It started in the lived reality of homelessness, addiction, and the kind of rock bottom that either breaks you or builds you. Tony Barnes chose to build — and what he built is changing Richmond forever.

Why We Exist

The Gap Was Too Wide to Ignore

Hunger doesn't wait for long-term plans. Cold weather doesn't pause while people get back on their feet. And a single meal, a single night of shelter, or a single moment of encouragement — as powerful as those things are — will never be enough on their own.

There has always been emergency help. What was missing was the bridge — the structured, sustained, faith-rooted support that walks alongside a person from crisis all the way to stability, purpose, and legacy.

ABM exists to be that bridge. We serve people where they are, and we don't let go until they've arrived at where they're meant to be. That's not charity. That's transformation.

Tony Barnes, Founder and Executive Director of Another Blessed Ministry

“I was on the other side of the fence. That's not a figure of speech — I lived it. And that's exactly why I know this works.”

— Tony Barnes, Founder

Our Founder

Tony Barnes

Founder & Executive Director

Tony Barnes didn't become a nonprofit founder by studying the problem. He became one by surviving it. His personal journey through homelessness, addiction, and recovery gave him something no credential or degree can replicate — the full picture of what it takes to truly rebuild a life.

When Tony got to the other side, he didn't just count his blessings. He turned around and went back for everyone still in the storm. He founded Another Blessed Ministry with one conviction: real help looks like walking with someone, not walking past them.

Under his leadership, ABM has grown from a single act of compassion into a six-pillar nonprofit serving hundreds of individuals and families every week across Richmond, VA. He leads with faith, operates with strategy, and builds with the next generation in mind.

Our Mission

What We Are Called to Do

To provide Christ-centered restoration for individuals, families, and animals in crisis — moving people from survival to stability, and from stability to legacy. Through our 4-Domain Life Coaching model, community resource exchange, and faith-rooted programs, we address the whole person: Personal, Social, Economic, and Spiritual.

“From Scars to Stars” — not just a phrase. A proven pathway.

6-Pillar Model

How We Serve

Six pillars. One mission. Every program is designed to work together — because people don't live in silos, and neither do their needs.

01

Scars to Stars Life Coaching

Our signature 12–16 week program — 4-domain coaching that transforms trauma into leadership across Personal, Social, Economic, and Spiritual domains.

02

Vocational Mentorship

Career training, digital literacy, and workforce development. Graduates are placed in real jobs earning $18–$26/hr with 82% six-month retention.

03

Animal Welfare

Emergency food, vet care, spay/neuter, and family preservation. We are the only organization in Richmond integrating animal welfare with human restoration.

04

Community Resource Exchange

Weekly mobile outreach delivering food, clothing, hygiene kits, and household goods to 150–200 individuals and 40–60 families every week.

05

Recovery & Restoration

Recovery coaching, family stability programs, and 6–12 month aftercare that addresses root causes — not just symptoms.

06

The Hope Hub

Our permanent 7,000–12,000 sq ft community restoration center in Richmond. All six pillars. One address. Grand Opening: June 13, 2026.

Core Beliefs

What We Believe

Faith-Rooted

Christ-centered at our core. Spiritual integration is always available and never forced — because transformation starts on the inside.

Lived Experience

Our leadership has been in the fire. That's not a talking point — it's the reason every program we build actually works.

Cross-Species Compassion

We are the only organization in Richmond combining human services with animal welfare — because a family's bond with their pet is part of their healing.

Dignity First

Every single person we serve is treated with full respect and agency. We walk alongside people — never above them, never past them.

Whole-Person Restoration

Our 4-Domain model addresses Personal, Social, Economic, and Spiritual needs simultaneously — because lasting change requires the whole picture.

Radical Transparency

Full financial accountability, third-party audits, and public reporting. 55%+ of every dollar goes directly to programs — zero compromise.

Where We're Going

We Are Not Building for Today.
We Are Building for Generations.

The Hope Hub — opening June 13, 2026 — is not a finish line. It is a launchpad. A permanent 7,000–12,000 sq ft facility that brings all six pillars under one roof, serves 500+ families at launch, and becomes the model that other cities look to when they ask: “What does a faith-based restoration center actually look like?”

ABM is building infrastructure for the long game. We think in decades, not quarters. We are a digital-first, AI-assisted, faith-rooted ministry that operates with the precision of a corporation and the heart of a calling. By 2036, Another Blessed Ministry will be a national model — the standard by which community restoration is measured.

This is Kingdom Legacy. And it is already in motion.
